Do you have Delta Dental insurance? If you do, we encourage you to take full advantage of your plan. It has the potential to drastically reduce the costs of your oral healthcare, helping you to prevent dental problems and receive restorative treatment when necessary. Whether you purchased your plan by yourself, or you’re fortunate enough to have coverage through your employer, you can rely on the team at Center One to help you get the most out of your policy.
Delta Dental offers two basic types of plans. DeltaCare USA is similar to an HMO plan. You’re required to visit an in-network dentist, and you pay set fees for each type of service you receive. It comes with no deductible and no annual maximum.
Delta Dental PPO plans are more flexible. They allow you to visit any licensed dentist, whether the dentist is in your policy’s network or not. Visiting an in-network dentist is beneficial because coverage rates tend to be higher, allowing you to enjoy lower out of pocket costs. For example, a routine preventive visit at an out of network dentist might be covered at 80 percent, whereas the same service at an in-network dentist may be covered at 100 percent.
There are two types of Delta PPO plans. The Basic plan only covers preventive care, while the Premium plan allows you to take advantage of restorative treatments after a waiting period. With the Premium plan, minor restorative care may be covered at 70 – 80 percent, while major restorative care may be covered at around 50 percent.
PPO plans also come with an annual maximum, which is the highest amount that Delta will pay out for services within a calendar year. When you visit our office for treatment, we’ll help you figure out exactly what your policy covers, and we’ll work with you so you might be able to avoid exceeding your annual maximum. For example, we may be able to schedule major restorative treatments across two calendar years so you can use multiple annual maximums.
