Tooth Extractions

Extraction may be performed for a single tooth or multiple teeth for any of the following reasons:

• Damage caused by trauma
• For orthodontic treatment, as teeth can erupt in a way that requires them to be extracted in order for your teeth to be brought into their proper positions.
• Decay and damage caused by advanced gum disease.
• A wisdom tooth that is impacted or has not properly erupted.

In case an extraction is needed, a X-ray is taken to get an idea of the exact position of the tooth to be extracted and also to check for abscesses. In case an abscess is present, it will have to be treated before performing the extraction. During the tooth extraction, the site is numbed . Dr. Raj then carefully removes the tooth and the extraction site is cleaned and filled.

There are two types of tooth extraction:

• Simple extraction: This type of extraction is done when the tooth that needs to be extracted is above the gumline.
• Surgical extraction: A surgical extraction is performed when a tooth is located below the gumline, has broken off at gum level, or is partially showing through the gum.
